Language • Lenca is a language considered extinct Mario Salvador Hernández - • - last known speaker of Lenca Potón • In 2004, the University of Central America studied the language, and recorded only 380 words, five vowels and 16 constants, and an alternation between “g” and “k”, with reduplication to create plurals from singular forms He died in 2012 ;(

  6. What Happened? • Due to persecution by the Honduran army in the 1980s-90s, many Lenca's resisted to continue to speak their language, fearing that they might get caught and persecuted • The Lenca’s were just fighting for their equal share of land, and a fair agrarian reform
