  3. Objective Digital pen technology in Golf • Strokesaver and TCC have jointly developed a live scoring solution for golfers. In 2007, the solution was tested with great acceptance at several events of the MidAmateur Tour. • The solution is based on the establishing scoring method using paper and pen. The only difference versus the conventional method is that in future, a different pen will be used: a so-called digital pen. • The solution makes it possible to transmit the score, once it has been entered on the scorecard, to a computer center via GPRS. There, the results are evaluated and processed for use by various media. • In a further phase, the technology was tested in Switzerland within the scope of a youth promotion project. On a scorecard developed especially for training purposes, play quality information can be entered in addition to the actual scores. The results are also transmitted to a computer center, processes there for evaluation purposes, and made available to the player either for personal analyses or for analyses with an evaluation tool. • Additionally, the computer center can publish the results on a proprietary platform. This Strokesaver feature will appeal to sponsors who wish to publish the results of their tournaments in showrooms or via in-house TV channels. The platform gives the golf community the leverage and capabilities needed to publish a broad spectrum of content and evaluations.

  6. Tournament scorecard Digital pen technology in golf • In the past : • player/marker uses pen. • the scores are written to a scorecard. • a complex infrastructure is needed to present the results on the web or on-course. • In the future : • player/marker uses digital pen. • the results are written to a scorecard. • no complex infrastructure is necessary. • the results are transfered directly via a routing device to a data center and can be published on the web and on-course.

  11. Benefits and development status Digital pen technology in golf • The live scoring solution is based on the traditional scoring method understood by every golfer. • The solution does not require the golfer to learn anything. There are no changes to the game. • With the solution, the results can be processes by a computer center and made available to many different interested parties: • the organizer to enhance the excitement of the tournament • the sponsor who can use the results in marketing, i.e. display them on a screen in a showroom • in youth promotion for the analysis of strengths and weaknesses by the player personally or by the trainer • The solution makes it possible for golfers to play “together” at various locations. • The technology is scalable to a comprehensive platform including the Internet, TV, and video, allowing organizers, players, and sponsors to publish customized content • The technology is proven and ready for deployment now!
