  5. What technical content, if any, do participants value most? • Nonmember/member differences • Members valued research-based information more than nonmembers -- 68.6% vs. 55.2% • Nonmembers value technical content more – 72.8% vs. 59.2%

  6. Challenge in Trying To Accomplish Your Job -- No significant differences between members and nonmembers The need to improve technical knowledge is the standout. In the write-in responses, nonmembers wanted practical technical knowledge.

What Areas of Technology are Most Important to You For your Future? • Three areas were more important to nonmembers • Software solutions – 66.4% vs. 51.9% • UI design/development – 45.9% vs. 38.9% • Smart Grid – 17.8% vs. 7.1% • 62.4% indicated software design/development/engineering is an important area for the future • 57.4% indicated software solutions were an important area for the future

Budget for Training and Who Pays? • Employers were most likely to pay the entire cost for conferences • Employers were least likely to pay the entire cost of acquiring certifications or for continuing education. • Employers were more likely to pay part of the cost of continuing education than acquiring certifications.

Hours Per Week Spent on Learning and Expanding Technical Knowledge • Nonmember/member differences • Members spent more time learning and expanding their technical knowledge • 38.6% spent 3-5 hours and 29.3%spent more than 5 hours • Nonmembers – 36.1% spent 3-5 hours and 17.6% spent more than 5 hours

Where or in What Format do You Prefer to Get Training/Professional Development/Continuing Education • Again, online courses are the most popular choice followed by in-person workshops • Certificate programs rank low. • However, 57.7% of the participants said they preferred certificates issued by professional associations on a broader basis. Only 7.9% preferred those issued by corporations for a specific product. 31.5% were not interested at all
