  1. Involving Learners with SEN/LLD in Diploma Development

  2. Workshop aims • To set the context for the learning offer for those with SEN/LLD • To discuss what the Diplomas can offer to SEN/LLD learners • To identify barriers to take up of the Diploma offer and suggest solutions

  3. Context • Regional LLDD strategy • Focus on employability • Need for work related curriculum • Implementation of FLT and links to Foundation (Level 1) Diploma

  4. Issues for: • Those able to work at level 2 and above but for whom the model might provide access issues • Those who wish to progress from entry level courses into the level 1 Diploma

  5. Level 2 & 3 Benefits of diploma model: • Practical learning & theoretical understanding • Experiential, planning & reviewing is central • Range of activity and assessment • Unit based

  6. Level 2 & 3 Possible issues: • Requirement to get functional skills at level 2 (spikey profile) • Different venues (transport?) • Engaging employers – making reasonable adjustments

  7. Level 1 Benefits: • Unit based – can fit with FLT • Easier to personalise • Different assessments • Practical • Sector based – focus on employability

  8. Level 1 Issues: (As for other levels – plus) • Information about FLT is ‘fuzzy’ • Real issue with functional skills • Need understanding of working world and sectors to make full decision • Work experience – difficult to find?

  9. Discussion Do you agree with this analysis? What are the solutions? If we were to give QCA advice, what would it be?
