  3. Thesis The executive branch is the most important branch of three: Executive, Legislative, Judicial, because the executive branch has most authority with most responsibility.

  4. Who? • Citizen of the U.S. • Over 35 years old • Lived in U.S.A for past 14 years • ‘Take care that the Laws be faithfully executed.’ • American Constitution (Article II) • “a person with senior managerial responsibility in a business organization.” • “the person or branch of a government responsible for putting policies or laws into effect.” • Four year term; with chosen vice-president • New Oxford American Dictionary

Authority • Ability to make treaties • Power to inform the congress of State of Union • “grant reprieves and pardons for offences against the United States.” (except for Impeachment) • “I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to my best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” • American Constitution (Article II) Sections (I,II,III)

Responsibility • Keeping the United States safe from others by making treaty. • Filling vacancy in the office. • Chief of the army (President) • Executing the law • Granting pardons for offences against the United States. • Become impeached from office their responsibilities are not fulfilled.

  7. How to be an executive? Election process Each representative and senator represents one vote; Massachusetts gets 12 votes, California gets 55, Idaho gets 3, all based on population. The U.S. citizens vote. A candidate must receive over 50% of the electoral votes to become president. “If the Electoral College does not give any candidate the necessary majority, the House of Representatives chooses the president from among the top three candidates in electoral votes.

  8. Limitation A two-force majority can overthrow the executives’ decisions. “Can be impeached for treason, bribery, or other high crimes or misdemeanors.”
