  1. How do mystery authors hook and hold readers? Authors in the mystery genre tend to hold readers by keeping readers guessing at all times. Authors are able to hook readers by starting their chapter off with an exiting climatic sentence making you want to read for more information on why or what the reason was for that part of the story.
