A majority of the university's 250 buildings occupy a plateau on the banks of the Mississippi River. • LSU’s campus is also known for the 1,200 live oak trees that shade the ground of the university.

  6. Weather • Baton Rouge is a warm city, with constant hot weather throughout the summer months and a mild climate during the winter. One of the most popular times to visit the Baton Rouge area is during February, March and April, when the weather is fine and the temperatures are cooler, averaging around 71°F. • Much of Baton Rouge is extremely flat and the drainage can be poor, so during rainy weather many areas quickly flood, meaning that driving in heavy rain can be hazardous. Rain is not unusual in Baton Rouge and falls evenly throughout the year, although rainy weather is often short and quickly vanishes.

The Tiger Stadium atmosphere is generally considered one of the loudest and most electrifying college football experiences in the country. In the legendary "Earthquake Game" against Auburn in 1988 the crowd's roar registered on a seismograph, shaking the ground as much as a small earthquake.
