Snapshot Continuation of the NetBiome Era-Net project (March 2007-Feb 2012) : Starts form an existing biodiversity research Partnership focused on financing high quality research Objective : Support the network and mobilize further stakeholders at all the levels of the quadruple helix (knowledge institutions, enterprises, government and societies) in order to identify and then to address perceived priority challenges in conciliating conservation of tropical biodiversity with sustainable development of Europe’s regions and territories. 13 partners from 6 member states Caribbean Netherlands and New Caledonia for OCTs Azores, Canary Island, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Reunion for OR’s Cape Verde as Third Country 3 years : (May 2013 – May 2016) FP7 funding: 1 M € (Coordination and support action)

Approach and outcomes Participatory approach A bottom-up approach (interviews, meetings, workshops, conferences and training sessions) Main outcomes Strengthen links between research, policy and business Foster high level research, practice and technology transfert and knowledge uptake on main biodiversity challenges Developing innovative biodiversity management tools Reinforcement of OCTs (and Ors) visibility at the European level (biodiversity value and smart growth potential)

OCTA’s input • OCTA (at least) member of the Stakeholder Panel • Stakeholder Panel : • Part of the governance mechanism of the project • Group of representatives of various relevant profiles (researcher, policy maker, SMEs, funding bodies, protected area manager, etc.) from Ors, OCTs and Third Countries. • Key contributor to : • International conference on common challenges for biodiversity management in support of sustainable development in ORs and OCTs • Identification of good practices for tropical and subtropical sustainable biodiversity preservation • Definition of the characteristics of an information service to match upcoming research programs and opportunities of collaboration with the needs and capacity of different stakeholders
