  2. Peterson Grabber -A bottom sampler consisting of two hinged semi-cylindrical buckets held apart.

  3. Secchi disk – is used to measure water clarity.

  4. Trieste - is a submersible vessel with a spherical room for research and observation.

  5. Purse seine net -a large net towed, usually by two boats, that encloses a school of fish and is then closed at the bottom

  6. Plankton net - are designed for the safe and secure capture of marine biological specimens

  7. Alcyone - is a ship operated by the Cousteau Society. It was created as an expedition ship and to test the operation of a new kind of marine propulsion system, the turbosail

  8. Core Sampler – used to take ocean floor rock samples

  9. Hydrometer - is an instrument used to measure the specific gravity (or relative density) of liquids

  10. Conshelf - short for Continental Shelf Station, was a series of undersea living and research stations undertaken by Jacques Cousteau's team in the 1960s

  11. Dredge -an apparatus for bringing up objects or mud from a river or seabed by scooping or dragging

  12. Water Collecting bottle – used to collect water samples at varying depths.

  13. Alvin - is a manned deep-ocean research submersible owned by the United States Navy and operated by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution 

  14. Side-scan Sonar - is used to efficiently create an image of large areas of the sea floor

  15. Reversing Thermometer -device for measuring underwater temperature and pressure

  16. Aluminaut - was built in 1964 and was the world's first aluminum submarine

  17. Dip net - a bag net with a handle that is used especially to scoop fish from the water

  18. Current meter - oceanographic device for flow measurement

  19. Flip - is an open ocean research vessel

  20. Nansen bottle - is a device for obtaining samples of seawater at a specific depth
