  1. G2p Safety Readiness ReviewJanuary 17, 2012Expected Radiation Exposure Levels from Activated Local Dump George Kharashvili, Radiation Control

  2. Expected radiation exposure levels at beamline level 5 minutes after 5-day long irradiation of the local dump for 20 hours per day with 100-nA, 3.35-GeV e- beam:

  3. 15 minutes after the end of the run:

  4. 30 minutes after the end of the run:

  5. Expected radiation exposure levels in the area adjacent to the local dump – This area will have to be accessed in order to replace the cartridge.

  6. 15 minutes after the end of the run - dump cartridge has been replaced:

  7. 30 minutes after the end of the run - dump cartridge has been replaced:

  8. 1 hour after the end of the run - dump cartridge has been replaced:

  9. Expected radiation exposure levels at the floor level 5 minutes after 5-day long irradiation of the local dump for 20 hours per day with 100-nA, 3.35-GeV e- beam:

  10. Floor level 30 minutes after the end of the run - dump cartridge has been replaced:

  11. Expected radiation exposure levels 1m above the top platform 15 minutes after 5-day long irradiation of the local dump for 20 hours per day with 100-nA, 3.35-GeV e- beam:

  12. Top platform 30 minutes after the end of the run - dump cartridge has been replaced:

  13. Conclusions: • In general, radiation safety issues are expected to be comparable to a typical high current experiment; • High Radiation Areas expected around the dump – physical access controls may be required; • Radiation areas are expected in several meter radius around the local dump at the floor level and the top platform level; • Routine access to target chamber at both platform levels will likely require a standing RWP.
