  1. Medaka Mittens By Wheeler and Neese

  2. Day 1 • On day one 4/17 Friday nothing exciting happened at all. The egg was still pretty small and there was no heart beat. We didn’t bother naming it that day. The egg was round and there was no way to tell for sure how old the egg was. We could see an oil glabdual and yolk sac.

  3. Day 2 • Not here sunday

  4. Day 3 • Not here sunday

  5. Day 4 • Today is 4/20 Monday . There is still no heart beat. Also we cannot see our Embryo. The oil globule is still big because the embryo still hasn’t started using it a lot.

  6. Day 5 • This is Tuesday. Today we can see the fish and its heart beat is 70 beats/min. The oil globule is smaller now and the arrow shows the heart. It still doesn’t move around that much. The arrow points to the heart

  7. Day 6 Wednesday • Today there is a higher heart beat. It is 95 beats/min. It moved around a little more today. We are still having a hard time seeing the organs and failed to get a picture of them,

  8. Day 7 Thursday • Today the heart beat was up to 120 beats/min. The fish moved around a lot more toady and we labeled the Optic Cups or the eyes. We saw the swim bladder but it wouldn’t let us get a picture.

  9. Day 8 Friday • Today the heart beat is really fast 145 beats/min. we thought it would hatch. It was moving a lot. We think that our fish has a slow heart because the heart beat is slow but the fish moves a lot and we saw most of the organs.

  12. Day 11 Monday • We last saw mittens on Friday. Now he is hatched and we cannot count the heart beat. He moves fast. You can see some blood in this picture. There is a video of him swimming on page 1.

  13. Basics For Survival • When the medaka is still an egg it does not require much maintenance besides a water change everyday. You need to keep it in a contained area until it hatches. The water you need is spring water because normal tap water can be very harmful to the egg. When the egg hatches and you have a fish then you move it to a bigger aquarium that has been cleaned. The aquarium needs to be in an area with a set temperature between 20-25 C. You can feed it any kind of tropical fish food with mosquito larva at least once a week.

  14. Discussion of Part and Their Functions • Heart – The heart of the fish pumps the blood • Swim Bladder- Maintains the buoyancy levels of the fish • Optic Cups- These later become the eyes of the fish • Spleen- Destroys old blood cells and holds extra cells • Pectoral Fin- Helps the fish swim
