Volatile Oil from Eucalyptus species As Novel Bioherbicides Daizy R. BATISH*, Shalinder KAUR, Harminder Pal SINGH and Ravinder K. KOHLI Botany Department, Panjab University, Chandigarh
Objective of the Study To test Phytotoxicity of eucalypt volatile oils towards weeds (Echinochloa crus-galli, Parthenium hysterophorus and Cassia occidentalis). with a view to choose them for development as a bioherbicide.
Echinochloa crus-galli Parthenium hysterophorus
100 r = 0.954 1 DAT 80 r = 0.991 60 Visible Injury (%) 40 20 E. crus-galli 0 100 21 DAT 80 r = 0.941 Visible Injury (%) 60 r = 0.980 40 20 0 0 2 4 6 8 10 Concentration (%) Changes in Injury Level
Conclusions • Eucalypt oils have a weed suppressing effect. • Affect the photosynthetic and respiratory activity. • Treatment causes visible injury in the mature plants • Result in Rapid Electrolyte leakage – Membrane Integrity • Could be Used as Bioherbicide.
