  6. Technology Council UpdateEHC-Environmental Health Committee • ASHRAE IAQ 2013 Conference, Vancouver, BC, Canada, October 15-18, 2013 • EHC roadmap is currently being developed, which will include short, medium and long-term research priorities.

Technology Council UpdateTAC-Technical Activities Committee • Encourage chapter members who cannot attend the bi-annual ASHRAE meetings to engage with TCs and become corresponding members. • Quick TAC Facts: • 3553 TC Volunteers total – 11% increase since 2011 • 572 TC Volunteers reside outside of U.S. & Canada • 314 TC Volunteers are Young Engineers of ASHRAE (YEA) • 70% of Technical Program in Denver sponsored by TCs • Over 200 Handbook chapters are maintained by TCs • http://www.ashrae.org/standards-research--technology/technical-committees

Technology Council UpdateRAC-Research Administration Committee • More than 13 new Research Proposal Solicitations • TRP-1609 “Defining the Capabilities, Needs and Current Limitations of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in Operations and Maintenance for HVAC&R”, • TRP-1641, “Effect of Unsaturated Flurocarbon Contaminants on the Reliability and Performance of HVAC&R Equipment” • TRP-1624, EFFECTIVE ENERGY-EFFICIENT CLASSROOM VENTILATION FOR TEMPERATE ZONES • TRP-1673, REVISION OF THE ASHRAE HVAC DESIGN GUIDE FOR TALL COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS • TRP-1712, DEVELOPMENT OF THE ASHRAE DESIGN GUIDE FOR DEDICATED OUTDOOR-AIR SYSTEMS.

Technology Council UpdateRAC-Research Administration Committee Awarded new research projects • RP-1450, TRANSPORT OF CONTAMINANTS FROM GARAGES ATTACHED OR INTEGRAL TO LOW-RISE RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS, was awarded to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for a period of 18 months at a total cost to ASHRAE of $174,539. • RP-1608, DEVELOPMENT OF LOAD-BASED METHOD OF TEST FOR LIGHT COMMERCIAL UNITARY HVAC, was awarded to Oklahoma State University for a period of 24 months at a total cost to ASHRAE of $128,302. • RP-1629, TESTING AND MODELING ENERGY PERFORMANCE OF ACTIVE CHILLED BEAM SYSTEMS, was awarded to University of Colorado - Boulder for a period of 18 months at a total cost to ASHRAE of $140,259.

Technology Council UpdateRAC-Research Administration Committee Quick RAC Facts: • 79 TC experts volunteered to write WSs & RTARs in Year 12-13 • $164k & 20 months is the average cost & duration of ASHRAE Research Projects now • 330 Technical Committee volunteers are monitoring progress on 62 active projects • 55% of active research projects are being conducted at universities • 845 ASHRAE Research Projects valued at $67.5 million started since 1960

Technology Council UpdateREF-Refrigeration Committee • A contract with United National Environment Programme (UNEP) to secure funding for TRP-1634, Guide for Sustainable Refrigerated Facilities and Refrigeration Systems, is now finalized • Recommended the Refrigeration Commissioning Guide be approved for publication
