  1. The Six Days of Creation & the Sabbath “In the beginning …” Day 1 - God created light and then separated light from darkness Day 2 - God created the dome of the sky Day 3 - God created the Earth and the sea Day 4 - God created the Sun and the Moon Day 5 - God created all non-human forms of life Day 6 - God created man and woman in His own image Day 7 - God sanctified the seventh day to remind man to set aside a day for rest and prayer and to remind humans that the world is in God’s hands. Genesis tells the story of the lilies of the field and how they neither “toil nor spin” and yet not even King Solomon in all his glory could not compare to the glory of a lily in order to emphasize how God loves and provides for even the very least of His creations. Genesis, this collection of oral tradition and varied written sources probably now lost to history, is not meant to be scientifically or historically accurate as we use those terms today. The author/collector of Genesis used the concept of the work “day” to present creation in terms the people of those ancient days could relate to in terms of their own everyday work habits.
