  3. Sample Work Accomplished • Continued data activities – archiving: • Continued copy AMRC data archive from • CD to 3590 tape • 1992-2003 for most data, working on LAC archive • Started use of DVD-R for archiving (March 26, 2004) • Tested out International ATOVS Processing Package (IAPP) at McMurdo past field season. • Hope to automate next field season • Possible return of products for community use? • MGS Science Workshop…(more on that later…) • New video tape/DVD-R – 10 years of composites!

  4. Web Site Statistics

  5. FTP Site Statistics

  6. FTP and Web Traffic percentages by .mil .gov & .edu Remaining traffic is .com, .us., etc. including IP only… Most popular: Antarctic composite & Iceberg imagery

  7. AMRC, AWS, & Iceberg Web Site • Complete revamping • Easier to Access • Added much more information with room to grow • Effort made to be compliant with the Federal Rehabilitation Act's Section 508 standards • Primary and backup – identical content • http://amrc.ssec.wisc.edu • http://ice.ssec.wisc.edu

  8. Web Site Improvements • New AWS station pages – arranged by location • Includes information on each station including: • pictures (if available) • station status, • the origin of station names, • real-time and archived data, • Latitude/longitude/elevation • Future Additions: • AWS station repair history • READER data links • Time Series • Suggestions ?

  9. Photo Gallery • Added many new satellite images • Interesting Iceberg Calvings • Interesting Satellite Features • Photos from 2001 and 2003-2004 field seasons • Looking to host other imagery • http://amrc.ssec.wisc.edu/gallery.html • Antarctic Journal: • http://tellus.ssec.wisc.edu/outreach/antarctic/index.htm

  10. Iceberg Web Site • Entirely redesigned page • New information on icebergs • Distances, New images, etc. • Redesigned archive of images • Arranged by iceberg and date • Also include webcam pictures • http://amrc.ssec.wisc.edu/iceberg.html

  11. Case Studies • Specific data collections for significant weather events • Some data analysis by AMRC • Some just data only • Provide collections to UNIDATA • First two delivered to UNIDATA/COMET Case study library: • 23-25 October 1997 – Cape Roberts Project • 20-22 January 2003 – Summer Storm • Will be on ADDE server, FTP server & THREDDS Catalog (hooked to DLESE) • http://amrc.ssec.wisc.edu/casestudy.html

  12. Case Studies • Future events to be studied: • 14-17 September 1998 – Maximum pressures between Victoria Land and Palmer Land • 3-5 September 2003 – Storm affecting McMurdo & AWS • 15-16 May 2004 – Storm affecting McMurdo & AWS • There are a few more dates and • Fog events….(more on that later…) • Will do a variety of meteorological phenomena… NSF NSF NSF NSF

  13. FTP Site • Reorganized ftp site • More categories, arranged in an easier to understand manner • Primary and backup • nearly identical content • ftp://amrc.ssec.wisc.edu • ftp://ice.ssec.wisc.edu

  14. Climatological Analysis Activities • Put together initial set of “READER” like data from AWS data holdings • Create four READER files: • READERfile • climatEXfile • climofile • Dailyfile • More stations to do… • Instrumentations transitions…. • Special work proposed for Palmer • Will be a part of South Pole activities • Published report • More from Kathie Hill’s talk… Station Argos ID: 1356 Station Name: Swithinbank Year: 1997 Jan Max Temp: 19 0 -2.90 Jan Min Temp: 28 15 -15.00 Jan Max Pres: 31 18 891.70 Jan Min Pres: 26 3 871.60 Jan Max WSpd: 29 21 8.60 334.00 Coastal Environmental Systems
