  3. Is in the Western United States • Montana is to the north • South Dakota and Nebraska are to the east • Colorado and Utah are to the South • 41° North to 45° North Latitude

  4. The Native American people of the Arapaho, Blackfoot, Cheyenne, Crow, Flathead, Nez Perce, Shoshoni, Sioux, and Ute tribes lived in the area

  5. French trappers entered the region in the mid-1700’s • The U.S. bought the land from France in 1803 • Part of the Louisiana Purchase • Part of the Oregon Territory

  6. Large herds of buffalo attracted many Native Americans to the area • Became the 44th state in 1890

  8. Wyoming has a semi-arid climate • Winters are cold and summers are warm • It gets very cold at night, even in the summer
