  4. Myths • They are difficult to use • It takes a lot of time consuming • Anyone can change the information on a wiki page • Kids will naturally want to go to your wiki • Design options are as extensive as other web design tools

Purpose • To facilitate communication between teachers for administrative or curriculum purposes • To facilitate communication between students in a class • To facilitate learning and communication between the class, home and teacher • For student publication on a theme or topic • To create a portal for a unit of work and distribute information and resources

  6. Decide on your purpose • Web 1.0: To communicate information from site creator to the user • Web 2.0: To allow users to add/create information on to the site

  11. Creating a new page • Click new page • Give your page a name • Page name will form the url address • Click create

  12. Creating a new page • Type in content • Recommend cutting and pasting from Office software

  13. Adding page to Navigation • Page needs to be added into navigation • Click edit navigation

  14. Editing Navigation • Screen will match current navigation

  16. Editing Navigation • Click Insert link • Page will appear with page name or find in your wiki directory (choose an existing page)

  17. Editing a page • Click edit this page • Editing tools appear • Simply make changes and save

  18. Editing a page: Inserting links • Highlight text • Click Insert link - Click External link - Input url

  19. Editing a page: Adding files • Highlight text or put cursor in desired location of file • Click add Images or files • Upload new file and browse your directory to find desired file • Click upload

  23. Editing a page: Adding files • Click upload files • Go to the files location on your computer • Press down on the shift key and click on all desired documents
