  2. Motivating the Unmotivated in a Regular Classroom Setting Presented by: Kelly Brock, Governor’s Teacher Network 2014-2015, Stanly County Schools, Locust Elementary

  3. Data Driven Implementation For the past three years, 5th grade students in the “middle” group (students who score average on assessments including EOG) have shown no growth. They do not qualify for EC or AIG. They remain stagnant; continue to hover over the threshold. In the classroom, these students show complacency with just passing scores and are least likely to take on challenges, make improvements, or complete all assignments. These students are happy “to just get by” from day to day. On average, 30% of the students in the classroom have these characteristics. Because of this trend in data, the need for teachers to think outside the box to motivate these students is pertinent.

  4. Purpose:The purpose of this study is to increase student motivation, student engagement, work completion, and ultimately achievement by using a variety of researched base motivational strategies in a regular classroom. • Participants: 5th grade students • When: September- January • Where: Mrs. Brock’s classroom • What: I will be evaluating a variety of techniques in the classroom intended to motivate students. Data collected will be used to provide professional development to school, district, and state (through Homebase) teaching professionals.
