A quarterly publication from Habitat for Humanity International • The Forum explores issues related to housing and poverty and describes the work that Habitat for Humanity is doing around the world. • The Forum offers in-depth analysis of innovative programs that address the need for decent housing.

  3. Highlights: Q&A Interview with Chuck Setchell (Senior Shelter, Settlements and Hazard Mitigation Advisor for USAID/OFDA)

  4. Highlights: Mitigation projects in Central America using the VCA and PASSA methodology

  5. Highlights: Pathways to Permanence article highlighting Habitat’s thinking related to the full shelter continuum

  6. Highlights: Haiti community-based enumeration lessons from Simon-Pele, Port-au-Prince

  8. Bogota, Colombia - 25th – 28th September 2012 • Four Tracks: • Inclusive housing and the right to the city • Adequate housing and risk reduction • Building a Sustainable Human Habitat • Finance models for adequate housing • www.foroviviendaadecuada.org

Highlights included: • 250+ people; 100+ organizations; 23 countries; 3 days • 27 case studies were given exhibit space • Panels w/ 30 “regional experts”; experts also commented on workshops where practitioners shared experiences • “Negotiation tables” were used to facilitate exchanges and collaboration • Lessons emerging on slum upgrading, community empowerment, private sector integration, public sector facilitating policies—happening throughout LAC • WUF in Medellin, Colombia in 2014; perhaps next Forum as well

DRR points identified: • Recognition of urban dimension of current & future disasters • Adequate housing vital to reduction of vulnerability • Sound national policies needed to support production low-income housing; key to social/economic development models • Reconstruction policies should have vulnerability reduction at its core • Agencies privileged to transfer capacity to affected populations; their inclusion in all stages of program is essential
