  3. Research questions • How rigorous is the initial assessment of trainee practitioners’ entry IT and ILT skills when they begin their ITE programme? • Are initial IT / ILT skills diagnostics used to develop practitioners’ skills in these areas during their programmes in a differentiated manner? • Do ITE programmes sufficiently cover the pedagogy behind use of ILT / blended learning (including issues such as inclusion/accessibility)? • How well do ITE programmes prepare trainees for work in the sector? • What recommendations would stakeholders suggest to improve the ILT skills of trainees and their knowledge of the pedagogy behind its use?

Research subjects - practitioners FE practitioners: FE/HE lecturers, tutors, supervisors, work-based and commercial trainers, council and uniformed services staff: • Practitioners currently studying the DET, CET, AET or year 2 of DTLLS • Practitioners who completed PTLLS / CTLLS / DTLLS in the last 2 years

  5. Research subjects - managers • Quality Standards Unit managers • CPD / HR managers • ILT managers.

  6. Data collection tools ITE Students: • Initial Survey Monkey questionnaire to the current and ex-ITE students to establish overall picture of ILT development on ITE courses • Follow-up focus groups with ITE groups • Follow-up 1-1 semi-structured interviews for case studies.

  7. Data collection tools Quality Unit / CPD / ILT managers • 1-1 semi-structured interviews with managers • To include discussion of Ofsted / IQER / internal quality review findings on ILT skills and development needs • Also covering CPD offers and plans for ILT staff development post-ITE.

  8. The research wiki • An open forum for partners and other practitioners and stakeholders in the sector to discuss the research and issues around it • The blog will allow posting of news, discussions and progress updates • The individual research stage pages allow sharing and editing of research documents • Partners at the ETF project induction meeting were keen to have access and participate in the wiki.
