Volksgemeinshaft- literally means people’s community (big society anyone) • It not require a major change in social structure of Germany but required a change in the consciousness of the German people so that they all supported the new German state and acted together • This was a new, unified community, based on sharing blood and race with a common view of the world or philosophy (Weltanschauung) Creating a volksgemeinschaft

  15. 1937- 97% teachers had joined the National Socialist Teachers League and attended a course on Nazi ideology and physical education • Curriculum was changed, including more physical exercise, and Nazi ideas incorporated into subjects especially biology • Different sexes had different subjects eg girls did needlework • Higher education changed in less ways, in fact less people went into higher education • Lecturers were purged and students forced to join the Germans Students League Actions
