Transitions for Vulnerable Students • Vulnerable – defined as students who require significant additional support beyond transition to stay in learning • Successful bid to DfE to support this area of work • Focus on most vulnerable PRU students and those with school action plus identified by schools • Transition assessment by school shared with learning provider to ensure appropriate curriculum • Two levels full assessment or provision of information to support Apply Rotherham application • Initial pilot work starting with Pupil Referral Units

Targeted Service Update • Specification has now been developed • Tender should have been issued early March • Delay is due to council reviewing how it is currently delivering youth service with a view to integrating services more effectively • Will not impact on current service delivery which will continue until the review is completed and recommendations are made • Reduced service from September to reflect schools new responsibilities

  5. Careers Grant Funding for Schools • All schools have received funding from the Early Intervention grant • SES are visiting all senior leaders in schools to identify development activity that can be offset by the grant • One off grant -will not be available next year

  6. OFSTED Thematic Survey • Takes place in 40 locations Jan12-April 2013 • Lead Survey published July 2013 • Focus – Careers Guidance in schools to support options pre 16 and progression post 16 • Letter sent to Chair of Governors • Parents and young people will be asked to comment. • Under 2012 framework – needs of a range of pupils met and destinations when they leave • Survey will provide important feed back on CG effectiveness

Careers Guidance & Quality Award “ICG is most effective when 3 things co-exist in school” (Paul Chubb Careers England www.careersengland.org.uk): • Overall CEIAG programme is quality assured against a (QiCS) validated QA • Internal programmes are built on by securing ICG from an external provider (Matrix Standard accredited.) • External providers should employ professional careers advisors competent to professional standards set out by Careers Professional Alliance (level 6)

  8. Quality Award for CEG • England has around 20 local/regional awards • Organisations offering QA’s can submit for validation to meet new ‘Quality in Careers Standard’ (QiCS) • 10 providers includingProspects have committed to work towards the validation process

  12. Sharing good practice - Discussion • What are you doing to inform staff of RPA (Raising the Participation Age) and the options available to young people? • What are you doing to prepare Y10’s and their parents and carers for RPA?
