  2. Origins “Book of Revelation” at the end of the Holy Scripture foretells the end of the world (and of mankind), thus beginning eternal life. Beginning of apocalyptic idea

  3. Characteristics • Pessimistic • Definite • Narrative Literature Apocalyptic literature foreshadows a mysterious future that often includes a doom for mankind. These stories usually follow the basic stages of the apocalypse.

  4. I am Legend Destruction of the human race -Robert Neville is only human left in a world of vampires 2. Revelation Neville realizes that he is the only survivor of the human race, but the world could return to “normal” with the new race 3. Death -Neville dies, new race lives on

  5. Significance Apocalyptic ideas provide a mysterious insight into what people think the fate of man kind is. It is a common theme in literature and shows that human nature is constantly questioning the existence and survival of the world. In the apocalypse, though the world ends, there is always the suggestion that something is left.
