  3. “For optimum health, scientists say eat a rainbow of colors. Your plate should look like a box of crayolas.”- Janice M. Horowitz, TIME, January 12, 2002.

  4. Citrus fruits are most famous for their high vitamin C content—just one large orange provides 163% DV (Percent Daily Value, based on 2,000 calories per day.)

  5. Citrus Fruits 16th century seamen figured out that if they stocked their ships with citrus fruit, they could avoid scurvy- due to vitamin C deficiency—that occurred during long periods at sea. The fruits are rich in essential vitamins and minerals, like potassium, folate, calcium, thiamin, magnesium, copper, riboflavin, as well as fibers like pectin and lignin, which are linked with heart protection.

  6. Noni People drink noni juice to treat cancer, heart disease, and diabetes, according to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCAM), which is part of the National Institutes of Health. But "noni has not been well studied in people for any health condition," cautions NCAM.

  7. Acai Berry Powerful antioxidant Unlike other berries and fruits, acai has high caloric values and fats. 100 g of berries provide about 80-250 calories depending up on the preparation and serving methods.

  8. Acai berries contain a good amount of minerals like potassium, manganese, copper, iron, and magnesium. Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids that helps controlling heart rate and blood pressure. Scientists are learning more about the functional power of superfoods. Although acai is in some weight loss products, few studies have tested the benefit of acai in promoting weight loss

  9. Mangosteen It comprises an impressive list of essential nutrients, which are required for normal growth and development and overall nutritional well-being. This fruit is very low in calories (63 calories per 100 g) and contains no saturated fats or cholesterol. Nonetheless, it is rich in dietary fiber (100 g provides about 13% of RDA)

  10. Prunes Has insoluble and soluble fiber They contain several disease-fighting carotenoids, including beta carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin. Helps with bone formation- new study conducted at Florida State University, researchers discovered that eating 10 to 12 prunes per day can actually reverse bone loss in postmenopausal women.

  11. Nutrient chart (per 100 g, about 10 to 12 prunes) Calories 240 Protein 2.18 g Fiber 7.1 g Calcium 43 mg Iron 0.93 mg Magnesium 41 mg Zinc 0.44 mg Potassium 732 mg Boron 3 mg Thiamine (B1) 0.05 mg Niacin 1.9 mg Riboflavin (B2) 0.18 mg Vitamin K 59.5 mcg Vitamin A 781 IU
