  2. What is the NCAA? • National Collegiate Athletic Association. • Governs more than 1,280 colleges, universities, and conferences. • Comprised of 3 separate divisions; I, II, and III.

D1 Academic-EligibilityClasses of 2005 - 2007 To enroll, participate, or receive a scholarship in your first year… • Complete these 14 courses: -4 years of English -2 years of math (algebra 1 or higher) -2 years of social science -2 years of natural or physical science (1 year of lab) -1 extra year of English, math, or science

  4. D1 Academic-EligibilityClass of 2005 - 2007, cont… -3 years of extra core courses (from any category above or foreign lang). -Earn a minimum required GPA in core courses. -Earn a combined SAT or ACT sum score that matches your core-course GPA and test score (sliding scale).

  5. D1 Academic-EligibilityClass of 2008 and Later • Core course total moves from 14 to 16, in the areas of math and extra core courses. Math - now 3 years (algebra 1 or higher) Extra core course - now 4 years. **Remember, it was 2 years of math and 3 years extra core course.**

D2 Academic-EligibilityClass of 2005 and Later To enroll, participate, or receive a scholarship in your first year… • Complete these 14 core courses: -3 years of English -2 years of math (algebra 1 or higher) -2 years of natural or physical science (1 year of lab) -2 extra years of English, math or science

  7. D2 Academic-EligibilityClass of 2005 and Later, cont… -2 years of social science -3 years of extra core courses (from any category above or foreign lang.) -Earn a 2.0 GPA or better in core courses -Earn a combined SAT score of 820 or ACT sum of 68 (no sliding scale in D2).

  8. Division 3 • Division 3 does not use the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse. • Best practice is to contact the D3 college regarding its policies.

  9. NCAA Initial-EligibilityClearinghouse • What is it? -The clearinghouse evaluates your academic record. • Why? -To determine if you are eligible to participate your first year in D1 or D2.

NCAA Initial-EligibilityClearinghouse • Where to begin? -To register you must complete and sign the Student Release Form (SRF) along with $50. -register at the end of your junior year. • Completing this… • Authorizes each high school you have attended to send the clearinghouse your academic information. • Authorizes the clearinghouse to send your academic information to all colleges that request your eligibility status.

  12. Scholarships • All athletic scholarships are limited to 1 year. • Scholarships may be renewed annually for a maximum of 5 years. • They range in a variety of amounts, full to very small.

  13. Recruiting Regulations • Contact- anytime a coach has any face-to-face contact with you or your parents (off campus, at the high school, or any competition). • Contact period- college coach may have in-person contact with you or parents on or off campus. Coach may also watch play or visit high school. • Dead period- college coach may not have any in-person contact with you or your parents. They may write or telephone during this time.

  14. Recruiting Regulations • Evaluation- When a coach evaluates your academic and athletic abilities, they cannot have any face to face conversation with you but can write or telephone. • Official visit- Any visit to a college campus by you and your parents paid for by the college. • Unofficial visit- Any visit by you and your parents to a college campus paid for by you or your parents. • Quiet Period- Coach may not have any personal contact with you or your parents, watch any play but they can by phone. You may visit the college.
