Simulation of Stream Discharge and Transport of Nitrate and Selected Herbicides in Mississippi River Basin

This study presents a simulation model called DAFLOW-BLTM for the simulation of stream discharge and transport of nitrate and selected herbicides in the Mississippi River Basin. The DAFLOW model solves continuity and momentum equations using a Lagrangian solution scheme for one-dimensional, unsteady discharge. The BLTM model routes parcels through the DAFLOW network, accounting for mixing, dilution, dispersion, and zero- and first-order reaction of nitrate, atrazine, and metolachlor. The model successfully routes water and pesticides, showing conservative behavior. The tool is expandable for future use.
