  1. Wire Sculpture Sculpture I

  2. Wire Sculpture Wire Sculpture is the creation of sculpture out of wire.

  3. Contour Line Contour drawing, is an artistic technique used in the field of art in which the artist sketches the contour of a subject by drawing lines that result in a drawing that is essentially an outline. The purpose of contour drawing is to emphasize the MASSand VOLUMEof the subject rather than the detail; the focus is on the outlined shape of the subject and not the minor details.

  4. Important Vocabulary Words Form- Form may be created by the forming of two or more shapes or as three-dimensional shapes (cube, pyramid, sphere, cylinder, etc.). It may be enhanced by tone, texture and color. Form is considered three-dimensional showing height, width and depth. Examples of these are sculpture, theater play and figurines. Form is the external appearance of a clearly defined area. Form could refer to 4th dimensional figures such as in computer generated design.

  5. Form

  6. Space Space- Space is the area provided for a particular purpose. Space includes the background, foreground and middle ground. Space refers to the distances or areas around, between or within things. There are two types of space: positive and negative space. Positive space refers to the space of a shape representing the subject matter. Negative space refers to the space around and between the subject matter. Space is also defined as the distance between identifiable points or planes in a work of art.

  7. Space

  8. Shape Shape- Shape pertains to the use of areas in two dimensional space that can be defined by edges, setting one flat specific space apart from another. Shapes can be geometric (e.g.: square, circle, hexagon, etc.) or organic (such as the shape of a puddle, blob, leaf, boomerang, etc.) Shapes are defined by other elements of art: Space, Line, Texture, Value, Color, Form.

  9. Shape

  10. Mass- a collection of particles, parts, or objects regarded as forming one body. (The mass in your project will be the shape of the animal.) Volume- the amount of space, measured in cubic units, that an object or substance occupies. (How much space your animal will take up) Line- Line is defined as a mark that spans a distance between two points (or the path of a moving point), taking any form along the way.

  11. Contour Line Drawing of Hand Contour Line- A contour is the line which defines a form or edge - an outline.

  12. Blind Contour Blind contour drawing is a method of drawing where an artist draws the contour of a subject without looking at the paper.

  14. Steps for Wire Sculpture(Each step is a piece that will get graded) Research an animal – MUST GET APPROVED BY MS. MONDINO. Can not be a simple animal such as; eel, snake, worm, whale etc… Must be printed out to use as a reference. Contour line drawing of your hand. Blind contour line drawing of your hand. Contour line drawing of your animal. Wire Sculpture of your animal.

  15. Objectives First objective: To understand contour line and to create a pre sketch of your animal using contour line. While you are drawing, think about why it is important to do pre sketches before you start your project!

  16. Day 1 Go over how to copy and paste images on a Microsoft Word document Go to library- Research images of your animal, copy and paste several images onto ONE word document. Make sure to get different angles (at least 3) of the animal. Make folder to hold all of your papers. In classroom we will do three different contour line drawings of our animal using three different angles. If some of you finish I will demo how to start the wire sculpture.

  17. Check list for your Folder!! Notes on PowerPoint Contour line drawing of your hand. Blind contour line drawing of your hand. 3 Contour line drawings of your animal. Ticket out for 4/12/13 Wire Sculpture of your animal. Folder with everything in it. MAKE SURE THERE IS ROOM FOR ANY ADDED ASSIGNMENTS!
