    1. Final Review Semester 1 2010-2011

    2. January

    3. Ecology Standard 11A Describe producer/consumer, predator/prey, and parasite/host relationships as they occur in food webs within marine, freshwater, and terrestrial ecosystems 1. What is the definition of an ecosystem and describe the three types of ecosystems from the above standard? 2. Give an example and define each type of interaction within a marine, freshwater and terrestrial ecosystem. 3. In which ways do humans effect ecosystems that harm the three interactions listed in the above standard?

    4. Ecology Standard 11B investigate how organisms and populations in an ecosystem depend on and may compete for biotic and abiotic factors such as quantity of light, water, range of temperatures, or soil composition 1. What is the difference between biotic and abiotic factors? 2. Give an example of an organism that competes for water, temperature, soil and light? 3. Give an example of how organisms compete for biotic and abiotic factors within an ecosystem?

    5. Ecology Standard 11C explore how short- and long-term environmental changes affect organisms and traits in subsequent populations 1. What is meant by an environment undergoing long-term changes? Give two examples of an environment undergoing a long-term change. 2. What is meant by an environment undergoing short-term changes? Give two examples of an environment undergoing a short-term change. 3. How do these changes affect organisms, and traits found in their offspring?

    6. Ecology Standard 11D recognize human dependence on ocean systems and explain how human activities such as runoff, artificial reefs, or use of resources have modified these systems Why do humans depend on the ocean? What is the definition of runoff? How does human runoff, artificial reefs and our use of resources effect ocean systems?

    7. Weather Standard 10B recognize that the Sun provides the energy that drives convection within the atmosphere and oceans, producing winds and ocean currents What is convection and explain how it works in a liquid and water? How does convection cause wind and give three examples of winds that occur around the world? How does convection cause ocean currents and give 3 examples?

    8. Weather Standard 10B identify how global patterns of atmospheric movement influence local weather using weather maps that show high and low pressures and fronts Describe a high pressure system and the direction the winds blow in the northern hemisphere. Describe a low pressure system and the direction the winds blow in the northern hemisphere. Visit the website below and review weather maps http://0.tqn.com/d/weather/1/0/B/-/-/-/weathersymbolssummary.jpg (tell me what you learned)

    9. Weather Standard 10C identify the role of the oceans in the formation of weather systems such as hurricanes. How do hurricanes form over oceans?

    10. Astronomy Standard 7A model and illustrate how the tilted Earth rotates on its axis, causing day and night, and revolves around the Sun causing changes in seasons Draw a diagram of the Earth and Sun showing day and night. Include an explanation of what causes day and night on our planet. Draw a diagram of the Earth and Sun showing seasons. Include an explanation of what causes seasons on our planet.

    11. Astronomy Standard 7B demonstrate and predict the sequence of events in the lunar cycle Draw a diagram of the Earth, Sun and Moon showing each of the 8 moon phases. How long does it take the moon to revolve around the Earth and rotate on its axis?

    12. Astronomy Standard 7C relate the position of the Moon and Sun to their effect on ocean tides Describe the position of the Earth, Moon and Sun during a spring and neap tide. What causes tides on Earth? Why are there higher high tides and lower low tides during a spring tide?

    13. Universe 8A Describe components of the universe, including the stars, nebulae and galaxies and use models such as the Hertzsprung Russell diagram for classification. How do we classify stars? Describe the three types of galaxies. Practice reading the HR diagram. Choose one star and tell me about its magnitude and temperature.

    14. Universe 8C Explore how different wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum such as light and radio waves are used to gain information about properties and distances of components in the universe. How fast does light travel? What are radio waves? What instrument do scientists use to study the electromagnetic spectrum?

    15. Universe 8E Research how scientific data are used as evidence to develop scientific theories to describe the origin of the universe. Explain the Big Bang theory. What evidence helped support this theory?
