  13. Scoring Rubric for Letter • 4 pts.: Includes a statement thanking the rescurer, clearly demonstrates understanding of the oil spill. Lists two ways oil spills can affect the health and survival of organisms, effectively communicates a concern about oil spills, and requests information about how kids can support cleanup efforts or prevent oil spills. • 3 pts.: Demonstrates a flaw in the understanding of the concepts or is missing one or two elements • 2 pts.: Demonstrates a flaw in the understanding of the concepts and is missing one or two elements or is missing three or four elements • 1 pt.: Demonstrates a flaw in the understanding of concepts and is missing three or four elements or is missing five elements • 0 pts. : Shows no understanding of the concepts or does not write a letter.
