  2. Birth • Frederick Douglass was born about 1818, in Tuckahoe, Maryland, near Easton.

  3. Death • He is not alive. Frederick died on February 20, 1895.

  4. Interesting Fact • Born a slave, Frederick fled from his master and went to New Bedford, Massachusetts, to gain his freedom in 1838.

  5. Interesting Fact • In 1845 Douglass published his autobiography Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass.

  6. Interesting Fact • Douglass became a noted reformer, author, orator. He devoted his life to the abolition of slavery and fought for black rights.
