Why this Conference • Scientific Congresses held in • 1997 Vinkeloord, the Netherlands • 2003 Horsen, Denmark • Plenty of measures/techniques to be implemented in practice • Ammonia is becoming increasingly important in international legislation and agreements (UNECE-Gothenborg Protocol, EU-IPPC, EU-NEC) • Streamlining of international developments is of importance (eg. BAT/BREF, Guidance Document) • Bring together science, policy makers and practice

Information about the Conference • Joint organization by Wageningen University and University of Kiel • CIGR, Dutch Assoc. of AgEng, KTBL, Ministry of Agriculture, and EurAgEng are sponsors • Wageningen Acadamic Publishers will issue Proceedings • Conference Centre “De Reehorst”in Ede (central and well reachable) • Hotel accomodation in Ede and Wageningen

  4. Set up of Conference • For policy makers (national, EU,…), scientists and agro-organizations/stakeholders • Organizing Committee; Scientific Committee • Program will be driven by the questions raised by stakeholders (policy makers, science, practice) • Inventory of questions to start soon (now open) • Questions published on web-site: www.firstammoniaconference.wur.nl • Already 35 abstracts (first deadline was 15 Febr.) • New deadline for abstracts: Mid September

Further planning and other issues • Monday mo: Plenary Session (policy makers) • Monday noon, Thursday and Wednesday mo: 2-3 parallel sessions, organized around the central questions • Plenty of room for oral contributions (papers, poster presentations) • Room for discussions about questions and answers, and plenary feed back • Social events in and around Ede

  6. Potential sessions • Ammonia as element of integrated gaseous losses from housing, storage, grazing, manure application  pollution swapping issues, optimal measures • Ammonia as part of the N cycle on traditional and biological farming systems  optimal systems • Cost effective (integrated) measures to reduce pollution by ammonia and other losses/gases • Any suggestions welcomed

  7. Further planning and other issues • Current abstracts reviewed in May in the perspective of the inventory of questions • Further detailing of the program (sessions etc.) • Search for speakers for the plenary session, and key-note speakers for the parallel sessions (suggestions welcome) • Further communication through electronic newsletter, web-site, direct mailing • Important stakeholders ?
