  2. What was the Invasion of France? • Also known as the “Fall of France” • German forces invaded and took over France. • Consisted of two main operations • Fall of Gelb • Fall of Rot

  3. Two Main Operations • Fall of Gerb • German armored units pushed through the Ardennes, to cut off and surround the Allied units that had advanced into Belgium. • Fall of Rot • Executed from June 5th German forces outflanked the Maginot Line to attack the greater French territory

  4. Maginot Line • was a line of concrete fortifications, tank obstacles, artillery casemates, machine gun posts, and other defenses, which France constructed along its borders with Germany and Italy, in the light of experience from World War I, and in the run-up to World War II.

  5. Aftermath • An armistice was signed between France and Germany • It went into effect on June 25th. • For the Axis, the campaign was a spectacular victory • The axis was the power against the allies. • The three main powers of the axis were, Germany, Japan, and Italy.

  6. Casualties • German Dead or Wounded: 137,108 • 1,989 tanks and aircrafts lost • French Dead or Wounded: 360,000 7,100 tanks and aircrafts lost
