Ecozones • What happens when we combine our landform region, climate region and vegetation region maps? • We get Canada’s 15 Ecozones • What is an Ecozone • A large geographical area in which human activities interact with the natural world. • Each ecozone has similar landforms, climate and vegetation

Where are the Ecozones • Based on the names of the Ecozones, you can get a good idea as to where an ecozone is located in Canada • Some words that might help you out • Taiga- Russian word for swampy wet forest • Boreal- means norther • Cordillera- chain of parallel mountains • Montane- mountainous area • Plains- large flat area with few trees • Other clues might include words from landform , climate and vegetation region titles (maritime, sheild, arctic, hudson, etc..)

  5. Guess the Location • In your notes guess the location of the following ecosystems: • Mixedwood plains • Boreal sheild • Atlantic Maritime • Pacific Maritime

  6. Guess the Region • You can also tell what type of landform, climate and/or vegetation is in the area by the name • Taiga sheild • Boreal sheild • Boreal Cordillera • Hudson Plains
