  1. What Matters in Physical Science? Hannah Liss

  2. An atom is the smallest particle of an elementthat can exist either alone or in combination. Elements are composed of only one type of atom.

  3. Within an atom… Neutrally charged neutron Negatively charged electron Neutron at the center Positively charged proton

  4. A molecule is the smallest particle of a substance that retains all the properties of the substance and is composed of one or more atoms. These particles are two or more differing types of atoms bonded to one another.

  5. Easy way to remember… • Funky Jamz

  6. Pure Substances Both elements and compounds are pure substances, as they involve atoms bonded to other atoms.

  7. Components of a mixture can be separated due to: • Differing compositions • Distillation • Dissolving • Filtering • Screening

  8. Mixtures may be classified as… Homogenous Heterogenous

  9. Solutions • Solutions are mixtures in which the components have dissolved. Most often they are liquids, but can be gasses or solids.

  10. Lab time!!
