  1. Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) http://www.etsi.org/ GRSC (27 April – 1 May 2003) Olly Wheaton Chair ETSI TC-ERM GSC#8 April 2003, DRAFT 0.1 - 030316GSC-8, OTTAWA

  2. Introduction (1) Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) address telematics and all types of communications in vehicles, between vehicles and between vehiclesand fixed locations ETSI, with its wide range of telecommunications standardisation activities for fixed and mobile networks and services contributes to this area of converging technologies Collaboration with ISO/TC 204 WG 16CALMproject - Continuous Air Interface for Long and Medium distance (CALM)project is part of ETSI’s brief The CALM infrastructures includes DSRC, GSM, 2.5G, 3G, andinfra-red transmission DSRC applications will be in the 5.8 to 5.9GHz frequency band GSC#8 April 2003, DRAFT 0.1 - 030316GSC-8, OTTAWA

  3. Introduction (2) The ETSI Strategy 2003 defines Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) as an important emerging topic ETSI has the following Task Groups committed to supporting ITS activities ERM-TG04 - Automotive EMC ERM-TG29 - DSRC Radio Standards for Road Transport and Traffic Telematics in the ISM band of 5,8 GHz ERM-TG31B – Ultra Wide Band Automotive Radar ERM -TG37 – Intelligent Transport Systems GSC#8 April 2003, DRAFT 0.1 - 030316GSC-8, OTTAWA

  4. ETSI Activities Specific to Intelligent Transportation Systems (1) The revision of the Automotive EMC Directive is relevant to ITS applications ERM-TG04 - Automotive EMC - is responsible for all matters relating to the Automotive EMC Directive (95/54/EC) and to the EMC Directive for two and three wheeled motor vehicles (97/24/EC) in respect of radiocommunications equipment fitted to, or used in, or adjacent to, a vehicle ERM-TG04 is to actively participate in drafting guidelines and any amendments to above Directive or standards associated to this Directive ERM-TG04 is to consider all aspects covering automotive radio equipment GSC#8 April 2003, DRAFT 0.1 - 030316GSC-8, OTTAWA

  5. ETSI Activities Specific to Intelligent Transportation Systems (2) ERM-TG29 - DSRC Radio Standards for Road Transport and Traffic Telematics in the ISM band of 5,8 GHz ETSI had developed a number of deliverables to cover the regulatory and testing requirements for DSRC in the field of RTTT ERM-TG29 is to revise EN 300 674 to align with the revision of ENV 12253 to EN-status by CEN/TC 278 ERM-TG29 is to verify the CEN proposals for possible conflicts with regulatory and/or spectrum management requirements Specify product requirements (parametervaluesand test methods) for Roadside Units and On-Board Units as EN 300 674-1complementary to the CENproposals Identify essential requirements under the R&TTE Directive to facilitate the preparation of a harmonised standard EN 300 674-2 GSC#8 April 2003, DRAFT 0.1 - 030316GSC-8, OTTAWA

  6. ETSI Activities Specific to Intelligent Transportation Systems (3) ERM-TG31B – Ultra Wide Band Automotive Radar ERM-TG31B is to develop standards, system reference documents or other technical documents for short-range devices as covered by the ECC SRD Rec. 70-03 and the relevant ECC Decisions in the field of automotive ultra wideband radar applications ERM-TG31B will also investigate spectrum parameters for use in automotive radar systems in order to ensure the efficient use of the radio spectrum, considering global harmonisation GSC#8 April 2003, DRAFT 0.1 - 030316GSC-8, OTTAWA

  7. ETSI Activities Specific to Intelligent Transportation Systems (4) ERM -TG37 – Intelligent Transport Systems ERM -TG37 is to liase with other groups active in the ITS field, for example CEN TC 278 and ISO TC 204, to provide ETSI deliverables as appropriate, in particular for protocol specifications and conformance testing  ERM -TG37 will also act as a focus within ETSI for ITS activities, and will liase with ERM RM on spectrum issues The Task Group will provide ETSI input to the ICTSB/ITSSG, which is intended to provide strategic co-ordination on ITS issues GSC#8 April 2003, DRAFT 0.1 - 030316GSC-8, OTTAWA

  8. CEPT Recommendation 70-03 - Road Transport and & Traffic Telematics (RTTT) Frequency band a - 5795 to 5805 MHz (intended for road to vehicle systems, particularly (but not exclusively) road toll systems) Frequency band b - 5805 to 5815 MHz (on a National licensed basis) Frequency bands a) and b) are recommended for 5 MHz channel spacing systems with the centre frequencies: 5797.5 MHz, 5802.5 MHz, 5807.5 MHz and 5812.5 MHz with a 10 MHz channel spacing for 5800 MHz and 5810 MHz Frequency band c - 63 to 64 GHz (vehicle to vehicle and road to vehicle systems) Frequency band d - 76 to 77 GHz (vehicle and infrastructure radar systems) GSC#8 April 2003, DRAFT 0.1 - 030316GSC-8, OTTAWA

  9. Conclusion Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) standardisation is an area of activity that merits the active co-operation of GRSC PSOs Motor vehicles are a global commodity and hence a global solution is required for ITS systems GSC#8 April 2003, DRAFT 0.1 - 030316GSC-8, OTTAWA
