  1. Quality control procedure for CBC test Three levels of control are available for the CBC analyzers i.e., Low, Normal and High Out of three levels, at least two levels control are mendatory including normal. For e.g 1) Normal and low or 2) Normal and high. In small labs two levels of controls can be run at the beginning of the day or one level in the morning and the second level of control after 4or 6 hours depend upon the working hours of lab

In the large scale lab having heavy workload and running in round the clock shifts, each level of control can be run in three shifts i.e., low, normal and high level control in 1st , 2nd and 3rd shift respectively. • Alternatively if all the levels of control are run in the beginning of the day. Through out the day, performance of the machine is monitored by using precision sample.

Precision sample • Precision sample is nothing but the yesterdays patient sample having normal value for the measureable parameter and preserved at 4 ºC. • The same preserved sample is run on next day, after the commercial control and the values are compared with the yesterdays value . The values should fall within the acceptable limit for the observed parameters. i.e., For WBC: +0.75, Hb : +0.4 and Plt : + 30 • Then the same sample can be used throughout the day as a control for monitoring the performance of the analyzer.

Bull’s Algorithm for quality control • Bull's algorithm is based on the fact that the patients red blood cell indices are symmetrically distributed and usally exhibit few extreme outlying values. • Measured parameter of a sample is compared with the average value of processed samples (40 to 60 samples) • Useful for the laboratory processing the large number of samples on a micro computer driven automated haematologicalanalysers.

  5. Studies can be done on Hematology Analyzer Coulter LH series Analyzer Based on VCS Technology can help in detecting Malarial Parasite s. VCS Technology also useful for the detection of Lymph proliferative Disorder. Giant Platelet and Platelet Clumps cane be idenditified from platelet Histogram. Menzer’s index can be calculated from RBC Indices Which is helpful in certain type of Anemia

  6. Some of the newer machines like Advia2120I based on the cytochemical staining procedure and flow cytomertry gives additional research parameter like MPXI , LI and LUC% which can be useful for the characterization of the different type of Leukemia
