  3. 1924-33 - Before Hitler becomes chancellor, he promises to overturn the unfair Treaty of Versailles by legal means 10/1933 - Hitler withdraws Germany from the League of Nations and makes public his desire to rearm Germany! 1935-36 – Germany establishes draft in March, 1935 - Appeasement Policy demonstrated that there was no united front against Hitler, encouraged Germany to occupy Rhineland in March, 1936. - Mussolini of Italy invades Ethiopia, Hitler offers making the Rome-Berlin Alliance 1935, Japan joins later. - Fascists and Nazis support Franco in his Fascist attack to overthrow the Spanish Republic, 1936 1938 - Hitler occupies Austria and the Sudetenland (Czech) with British approval in Munich Pact, 9/38. World War II 1939-1945

World War II • German treatment of conquered lands was particularly brutal: • Areas were taxed and exploited heavily • Nordic regions received best treatment, French were tolerated (since not Aryan) and treatment was most brutal in the East (USSR). • POW treatment was harsh along with the “special” target • of Nazi Germany were the Jews and the Holocaust. • Arrival in the camps • Life in the camps • Death in the camps 1939-1945
