  19. Main Learning Objective • Today I will learn how to count to 10. • I will move away each item as it is counted.

  20. Main Learning Task • Today we are going to work as two groups. • In Group 1, the younger children will work with an adult at the start and end of the lesson. • Group 2 works with an adult in the middle.

  21. Main Learning Task • Group 1 • Today there is a counting problem to solve. • You are going to see if you can fit 10 things into quite a small pot.

  22. Main Learning Task • Group 1 • Your teacher will give you lots of nice things to choose from. • She will come back later to see if you have completed this task.

  23. Main Learning Task • Group 2 • Sit in pairs • Today we are going to play a game called ‘Counting on’. • You need the dice, and some counting objects.

  24. Main Learning Task • Each player starts with one object. • The object of the game is to collect objects without ever having more than 10. • Roll the dice and decide if you take that many objects, you will still have 10 or fewer objects.

  25. Main Learning Task • The winner is the one with exactly 10 objects. • Predict the number, and then check by counting.

  26. Main Learning Task • Today’s challenge:- • Play the game with 20 objects and use a normal 1 – 6 dice.

  27. Main Learning Task • Group 1:- • By now all Group 1 will have collected 10 objects. • Line up the objects and count them. • Did you have 10? • Well Done!

  28. Main Learning Objective • Today I will learn how to count to 10. • I will move away each item as it is counted.

  29. Plenary • Children in group 1 can show what they put into their pots. • Count out the 10 objects. • Why do some pots look fuller?

  30. Plenary • Choose some children to stand in a huddle. • How many children are there?

  31. Plenary • Line the huddle up! • How many children are there? • Which was easier to count? • Try it again.
