  1. Poseidon God and Goddesses project: By Zach Gretsky

  2. Who was Poseidon? Poseidon, the child of the titans Cronus and Rhea, was swallowed at birth by his father Cronus. Later, after being saved by his brother Zeus, Poseidon helped Zeus and Hates to over throw Cronus. Once they succeeded in over throwing Cronus the three Gods split the universe between them.

  3. Poseidon was the supreme ruler of the seas, that was the part of the universe he was given after his brother and himself split the universe three ways. He is often associated with storms, earthquakes and even other violent forms of natural disasters.

  4. He was seen as often helpful to humans. Such as, protecting sailors at sea, guiding ships to safety, and filling the nets of fishermen with fish.

  5. Though often seen as helpful to humans Poseidon was quickly angered. If one did not offer proper respect or act against the god himself. He was seen as quick to stir the sea into a fury, or cause earth quakes, or to even cause land to sink into the sea.

  6. Poseidon fathered many children, including many monsters and sea creatures. He fathered famous characters such as Triton the sea god, the winged horse Pegasus, Charybdis a sea monster, Thesus, and Polyphemus the Cyclops.

  7. There are many myths including Poseidon, such as the stories about how the gods overthrew the titans. When Poseidon joined two of his brothers, Hates and Zeus to take down Cronus and over throw the titans. Another myth is the dedication of Athens where Poseidon competes with Athena , though his gift of a well backfired when the well was salt water though Athena’s Olive tree was seen as significant and earned her the title of the city. Poseidon also delayed Odysseus on his twenty years of travel to Ithaca, because he angered the God by blinding his son the Cyclops Polyphemus. There is also the story of him and his wife Amphrodite, where he had been lonley for a long time and finally saw a lovely nymph though she rejected him because of his violent nature, though after having her followed and having the person explain his love for her she would allow him to marry her
