  3. Numitor • Father was King Procas • Brother Amulius stole his kingdom through force • Daughter and son were exiled

  4. Amulius • Feared for his throne • Killed Numitor’s son • Forced Numitor’s daughter, Rhea Silvia, to be a Vestal Virgin

  5. Rhea Silvia • Relationship with god of war, Mars • Mother of Romulus and Remus • Killed by Amulius’ orders

  6. Romulus and Remus • Twin sons of Rhea Silvia and Mars • Put in a basket to be drowned in the Tiber River; carried to the foot of the Palatine Hill • Nursed by she-wolf;thereafter, known as a she-wolf’s litter • Found and raised by shepard, Faustulus • Avenged their mother’s death and killed Amulius • Reinstated Numitor as king

  7. Romulus and Remus • Built a city on the Palatine Hill to honor where they were nursed by the she-wolf • Fought over naming of the city • Remus saw 6 vultures • Romulus saw 12 vultures

  8. Romulus • Killed Remus for jumping over his wall • Founded the city Rome on April 21, 753 B.C.E • Invited criminals and immigrants to populate his city • Kidnapped the Sabine Women at a festival for wives • Fought with the Sabines over the women • Disappeared in a cloud

  9. Tarpeia • Daughter of a Roman captain • Approached by King Tatius and promised anything • Wanted their bracelets • Soldiers threw shields on her • Traitors thrown from “Tarpeian Rock”
