  3. Types of Unexpected Situations • Bullying, Harassment, or Abuse • Drug & Alcohol Use • Eating Disorders • Gang Activity • Sexual Activity and/or Pregnancy • Suicide Attempts • Medical Emergencies • Weather Emergencies • Shooting or Bomb Threats

  4. Have a Plan! • Become familiar with your school’s emergency management plans • Prepare students in what to do regarding emergencies or uncontrollable situations • Allow students to ask questions in order to build trust during unexpected situations • Explain what situations could arise, it may help them later. • Stay calm and positive no matter what!

  5. Legal Obligations • The students’ well-being is your top priority • As a teacher you need to follow protocol for every situation • Field trips & permission slips • Not following protocol can cause legal ramifications • Don’t be afraid to seek help from others, such as counselors, administration, colleagues, etc.
