Goal: • To provide educational group sessions and immediate linking to services to military family members who are residing in San Antonio during and after their military soldier receives medical care from Brooke Army Medical Center sustained from an injury related to OEF / OIF.
Overview of program Topics will include: Session 1: Education regarding common reactions when a loved one is injured and family & relationship issues Session 2: Reactions to stress, coping skills, spirituality, and deep breathing & relaxation exercise Session 3: Social support, remaining on active duty, returning to civilian life, and stories of hope

Children’s Educational Sessions Children’s Educational Sessions • Writing Activity – children will be completing worksheets during each session that will be compiled into a scrapbook by the end of the third session Session One • Block Activity – problem solving & conflict resolution • Sunglasses – looking at things with a different perspective • Illusion Pictures – demonstrates different ways to view issues & problems Session Two • Beach Ball Toss – identifying emotions & sharing feelings • Worry Hand Art Activity – identifying 5 important people to go to when needed • Balloon & Bubbles – deep breathing exercise Session Three • Crystal Ball Globe – drawing the present family situation & future aspirations • String Beads – each bead represents a different support (person, pet, secret place) they can confide in or spend time with
