Forum Functionality SEFIE Forum operates in same way as other online forums: users have the ability to browse existing postings anonymously, are required to register when replying to messages or posting new messages. has a moderator who will block offensive, overly commercial or political postings. moderator will not give a technical opinion on postings – particularly on the technical accuracy – but will have the authority to ban abusive users. It is anticipated that SEFIE will host not one but many forums: one for each part of the Eurocodes plus one for general issues It also displays: Login box Search Box Forum statistics Who is online (not shown above) The first specialist forum is dedicated to Part 1-8 of Eurocode 3 “Design of Joints”. Home Page & Login The Home Page and Login In the login box on the left: enter the user name and password supplied by the SEFIE Forum administrator If you do not have an account, you can register yourself. To do this, click on the ‘Register’ button on the top of the screen and the registration form will appear. To create an account enter a suitable username and your email address. A randomly generated password for your username will be sent by email.     6. Your Profile Profile Once registered and logged on, you can change details of your account by clicking on the ‘Profile’ button at the top of the screen.     8. Searching Searching the SEFIE Forum You can search the discussions on the SEFIE Forum by entering text into the search box and clicking on the ‘Search’ button.     9. Search Results Search Results Whether you perform a simple search or an advanced search, a list of results will be displayed that match your search criteria (if any). Each matched result presents a summary of the posting and a hyperlinked title.     10. Threads in a Discussion Discussions and Threads in the SEFIE Forum As well as searching, you can browse through the discussions within the SEFIE forum. For example, clicking in the ‘Connections to EC3 Part 1.8’ link reveals a lists of threads.     11. Posts in a Thread Posts in a Thread Clicking on one of the discussion threads (e.g. Base Plate Design) reveals a list of messages posted to the forum on this subject. The default display is shown above. You can re-order the messages or change to a ‘threaded’ view using the pull-down menus at the top of the screen. You can navigate to previous and next threads at the top and bottom of the list of messages. Notice that your path to this discussion thread is displayed at the top of the screen. To reply to a message – click on the ‘post reply’ button under the message (or if in ‘Threaded View’ click on the ‘Reply’ link. One handy feature of the SEFIE forum is the ability to add references to clauses within Eurocodes parts that are turned into ‘hot links’ to a PDF file in the posted message. To do this, click on the ‘Insert link to Eurocode Clause’ link. To check the spelling within your message body, click on the ‘Check Spelling’ button. You can preview your posting by clicking on the ‘Preview’ button.
