  2. Why NAPSE Created the National Standards? • To provide framework for quality physical education program. • To provide guidance for developing state and local standard. • National Standards increase the professional stature of physical education.

  3. What is a physically educated Person? • The person has learned skills necessary to perform a variety of physical activities. • Is physically fit • Participate regularly in physical activity • Knows the implications of the benefits from involvement in physical activities • Values physical activity and its contribution to a healthful lifestyle in order to pursue a lifetime of healthful physical activity.

  4. How do the standards have to do with physical educators? The standards is a set of guidelines that help physical educators to plan their lessons, so they can help their students to work toward the goal of become a physical educated person.

  5. Standard 1 • Demonstrates motor skills and movement patterns to perform a variety of physical activities. The intent of this standard is to get students master the fundamental movements so they can enjoy the physical activities they participant in.

  6. Standard 2 • Demonstrate understanding of movement concepts, principles, and tactics as they apply to learning and performance of physical activities The intent of this standard is to have students understand the basic concept of movement principles, so they know when and how to apply them later on as they physical education progress.

  7. Standard 3 • Participates regularly in physical activity The intent of this standard is to encourage students to engage in physical activity as a daily routine, just as they will eat, sleep and bath everyday.

  8. Standard 4 • Achieves and maintains a health enhancing level of physical fitness The intent of this standard is to encourage students to take responsibility of their own body through the mean of physical education.

  9. Standard 5 • Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity settings The intent of this standard is to train students to develop self-initiated behaviors that promote personal and group success in a physical activity settings.

  10. Standard 6 • Demonstrates understanding and respect for differences among people in a physical activity setting. The intent of this standard is to develop students’ social skills that allow personal and group success in physical education.

  11. Standard 7 • Chooses physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social interaction. The intent of this standard is to have understand students why physical education is so important for them to grow as a human being, in physically, emotionally, and socially.
