  5. Course Objectives To understand the role of corporations in American life. To be aware of the responsibilities of business to the broader society. To gain an increased understanding of environmental issues associated with the business. To view corporations from the stakeholder perspective. To understand the impacts of information technology on business and how business can utilize it to become more efficient and effective. To reinforce oral presentation skills.   7. Class Activities • Lecture of key topics • End of text case discussion • Three exams and nine quizzes • Technology Ethics Report • Paper submission and individual presentation required • June 22 & 27 (Main) and June 29 (AVC)

Lecture of Key Topics • Cover important topics you need to know • From textbook and other sources • Lecture format: • Customized lecture notes are available on the class website (“Lecture of Key Topics”) for in-classes. • Also, lecture note of each chapter by the publisher posted on the class website as well for online classes.

End of Text Case 1 • See detail instruction on the class website! • Group assignment • Except case 1 and 2 (individual assignment) • Turn in thru Blackboard submission link by Th, June 1st • Group Discussion • Discuss off-line (in-class) and online (using Blackboard “discussion board” for online class) • Answer to assigned case questions

  10. End of Text Case 2 • Answers must be turned by the due dates • Hand written submission for the in-class discussion • Online discussion thru Blackboard “discussion board” using your group discussion board

Online Exam • See detail instruction on the class website! • Three Online Exams thru Blackboard • Click to each exam link on the class website (in the second table) to see key information and instruction • Try two time and three hours for each attempt • Your exam will be saved and submitted automatically by the system (BB) when time expires.

  12. Online Quiz 1 • Total 9 quizzes and each one is 3 points • Quiz 1 (ch 1 & 2), Quiz 2 (ch 3 & 4)…….. • 40 true/false type questions and only two options, either "PASS" or "FAIL" • To pass each quiz, your score percentage must be AT LEAST 80% (32 out 40 or greater than equal to 2.4 points).

  13. Online Quiz 2 • Pass the quiz  keep your passing score. Fail  earn nothing (zero points).  • Try each quiz two times and each attempt must be completed in two hours.  • Your quiz will be saved and submitted automatically by the system (BB) when time expires.

  16. Required Blackboard Activities • Take exams and quizzes by the due dates • Submit assignments(End of Text Case) and Technology Ethic’s Report • If required, discuss“End of Text Case” thru “Discussion Board” with your group • See all the due dates on the class website

  17. Except the case 1 and 2 (individual assignment). All the case discussions are group assignments.

Evaluation and Grading • Points scales are subject to change Quiz (nine, each 3 points) 27 points - total nine quizzes, each 3 points Group Case Assignment 48 points - total six (two cases for each), each 8 points Tech. Ethics Report 50 points Exam 1 25 points Exam 2 25 points Exam 3 25 points ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Possible Total points 200 points

  19. Submission Guide 1 • If submission thru Blackboard is required, you must submit thru it. Otherwise, it will not be accepted. • Before submitting thru Blackboard, make sure to CLOSE the Microsoft office application (i.e., Word) COMPLETELY.

  20. Submission Guide 2 • Otherwise, ONLY title of you file will be submitted without including actual contents of your file. • And if you need to submit more than one files, you must submit all files together at once. That is, you must "UPLOAD" all the files together at once.

  21. Class attendance Is required and more than one absence will negatively impact your final grade (at least 30% penalty of total score). Notify me your absence by email at least one day before. The attendance will be checked In-class until next week! Only attend your presentation date!

  22. Email Policy Every CSUB student has a CSUB issued email address (just like mine!) ONLY official email for our course is CSUB Email. If you email me using your private email, I will not reply!

  23. Class Announcement Posted thru the class announcement page on the class website Sent by email as well if necessary (e.g., cancellation of class) Make sure to check the class announcement page and email periodically Especially, one day before the class

  24. No Interference Policy • Surfing the Internet, typing (email, paper…) and cell phone texting • Private talking...... • Bottom line…do not distract me others • Up to 40 % of your total score can be deducted depending on the level of interference.

  25. Late Policy • All Students must be on time to the class. • If you late more than 20 minutes without any notification (at least 24 hours), it will be considered as “ABSENCE.” • Also, if you leave early without my permission, it will be considered as “ABSENCE.”

  26. Late Work • Will not be accepted! • The link for assignment submissions, exams, and quizzes will disappear after due dates • Failure to submit an assignment by the deadline will result in a grade of 0.

  27. Peer Group Evaluation • Peer Group Evaluationis a part of the grading scheme to prevent free riding in the group. • Download the form from the class website • Your evaluation is 100% confidential • Your case grade will be adjusted based on the peer evaluation. • Submit by email at the end of term

  28. Software Policy • Microsoft Office (PC version) is the ONLY official software for our university. Thus, no other SW tool is allowed. • Any work submitted not using Microsoft Office will not be accepted. • Download the most current MS Office thru CSUB Office 365. • www.csub.edu/office365
