  2. INTRODUCTION • Administration is the activities of group co-operating to accomplish common goals. In other words, it is the organisation to use man and materials to accomplish a purpose. The term administration is also in a narrower sense refers to those patterns of behaviour that are common to many kinds of co-operating groups and do not depend upon either the specific goals towards which they are co-operating or the specific technological method used to reach these goals.

  3. MEANING • Trends:-It denote general direction & tendencies specially of events, of opinion. • Nursing trends:-refers to direction towards which the different nursing events have moved or are moving as well as the opinion in & around nursing that are found in & about nursing profession. • Trends in nursing that is changes currently taking place in any area of nursing which the profession as a whole

  4. Contd… These are • Social change • Change in other profession • Change in nursing profession itself in the country • Change taking place in other countries in nursing world.

Social change • Nursing profession serves to meet the need of the society particularly the needs related to health & well being. • The changes in society will influence to bring about changes in nursing profession. 1. At present, efforts are made by government of India to deliver the health care to the community especially in rural area. 2. Overall improvement in the education of people with ever growing awareness about health & health need.

  6. Contd… • Now women are more educated & take up jobs out of home to serve & earn. • Advancement of technology eg. Automatization, Industrialization, Urbanization • After independence, government began to make serious efforts to meet health need of nation by implementing recommendation of Bhore committee.

  7. Change in other profession • Trends in nursing profession are closely related to those in medical profession. • Medical profession is fastly changing profession & the era of specialization & super specialization has come. • Modern health care facility like ICU, ICCU, Renal unit, Organ transplant unit etc • Biomedical science have far advanced resulting in newer diagnostic equipment such as scanner, New drugs, monitoring system in field of health care all over the world

Change in nursing profession itself in thecountry • There is trends in nursing profession towards meeting the criteria of profession. • Trends to take up education leading to bachelor’s degree in nursing ,master degree as well as doctoral degree. • Trends related to tuition fee eg. Paid stipends, free hiring, accommodation , food & uniform but • Trends related to changes in working condition for nurses.

Change taking place in other countries innursing world. • International influence is brought about by many ways- • Fast growing trends to post basic degree programmes. • INC promote sharing of ideas & common interest between member of national organization. • Exchange of professional literature like international review, Professional journals, articles etc.

  10. ISSUES OF NURSING ADMINISTRATION: • As far as nursing administration is concerned, it is in pathetic condition. Both union and state governments have decided to give some gazetted ranks to the nurses. Now the situation has gone from bad to worse, worst to the extent that for filling up of the vacancies of nursing cadre. After strike they will fill up some vacancies. Like this so many problems, prevailing in the nursing administration are given below

Contd… Various issue in nursing profession may be related to the profession , education ,Practice,& nurses themselves. • Status in nursing in society in Health care delivery system. • Value reflect in nursing profession • Quality in nursing hand in hand education & practiced in hand between nursing • Unique function of nursing

  12. Contd… • Different level of nursing required in country • Evidenced base nursing research. • Expanded & extended role of nurse • Globalization in the profession • Nursing leadership bringing change in health scenario according to community demand.

  13. PROBLEMS AND CHALLENGES FACED BY THE NURSING ADMINISTRATOR:- • Lack of adequate training. • Problem of personnel management. • Inadequate number of nursing staff. • Shortage of trained manpower. • Lack of motivation. • No involvement in planning.

  14. Contd… • No career mobility. • Poor role model. • Non-nursing activities. • No research scope. • No proper authority. • Professional risk/hazards. • No autonomy in nursing activities.

  15. CONSTRAINS AND BARRIERS IN NURSING SERVICES ADMINISTRATION:- • Planning of nursing manpower. • Management and development. • Staff development. • Development/awards. • Nursing legislation. • Trained nurse managers.

  16. Contd.. • Diversification in nursing profession. • Leadership inadequacy. • Lack of strength, weakness, opportunity and threat. • Lack of awareness to meet social, economic and technical changes in the society and consumer protection act. • Lack of communication. • Nursing care audit.

CONCLUSION • Administration is a enabling process for achieving the laid down objectives of an organisation through formulated plans and policies whereas management as the processes of putting administration into practice or effect. In other words administrators are responsible for formulating policies, plans and procedure to achieve expected goals.
