  2. ATLETISMO • Atletismo, deporte de competición que abarca un gran número de pruebas que pueden tener lugar en pista cubierta o al aire libre

  3. Las carreras, que constituyen la mayor parte de las pruebas atléticas, varían desde los 50 m lisos, que tiene lugar en pista cubierta, hasta la carrera de maratón, que cubre 42,195 kilómetros.

  4. El programa olímpico de este deporte consiste en las siguientes pruebas: velocidad, salto, combinada, circuito y lanzamiento, en total se disputan 24 pruebas masculinas y 20 femeninas, en el atletismo actualmente no existe un limite de participantes como en otros deportes.

  5. El atletismo es el deporte olímpico por excelencia así como el que mas expectación tiene en las olimpiadas, sus pruebas se realizan en el estadio olímpico y algunas de ellas fuera de el. Antiguamente las pruebas de atletismo se realizaban en las primeras jornadas de los juegos pero actualmente se disputan en los últimos 8 días, haciendo coincidir el final de la maratón con la ceremonia de clausura.
