  3. Two themes: Race and Gender • The absurdity of stereotypes in the patriarchy system, such as: • Imperialism • Colonialism • Heterosexuality • Mimicry • Feminism

  4. Cross-dressing • Cross-dressing is the wearing of clothing and other accoutrement commonly associated with the other gender within a particular society.

  5. Cross-racial casting • The usage of white actor to play the colored character.

The distancing effect • "which prevents the audience from losing itself passively and completely in the character created by the actor, and which consequently leads the audience to be a consciously critical observer." • The audience should always be aware that it is watching a play: "It is most important that one of the main features of the ordinary theatre should be excluded from [epic theatre]: the engendering of illusion."

  8. Messages from the playwright • Accepting others’ differences and try not to dominate over them into certain social roles.
