AlzheimerScotland • Scotland’s leading dementia charity. • We provide service and campaign actively to help Individuals, carers and family's dealing with dementia. • We raise awareness of dementia Nationally and Locally. • 24 hour Free Helpline – 0808 808 3000 • Provide a range of services across Scotland.

Our Aims • To be the national and local voice for people with dementia and their carers in Scotland. • Improve public policies and benefits for people with dementia and their carers • Provide and secure the provision of high quality services for people with dementia. • Ensure nobody goes through dementia on their own.

  4. What Is Dementia? • Dementia is a progressive brain disease currently with no cure. It affects approximately 88,000 individuals in Scotland alone. 4,500 in North Lanarkshire • Umbrella term and mistaken as just Alzheimer's. • Can put extreme pressure on family's and carers 24hrs a day. • Dementia is commonly miss-understood and carry's a terrible stigma.   6. What Is A Dementia Friendly Community? • Everyone being committed to work well together and support people living with dementia. • Breaking down the stigma behind dementia. • Integrating people with dementia into everyday community life.

Community Activity Organiser • Role funded by (RCOP) • Piloted in Motherwell town centre, we are building DFC’s within North Lanarkshire, • Working with businesses, community groups, many other facilities. • Provide FREE Dementia awareness sessions. • Environmental guidance to ensure dementia friendly facilities

  8. Awareness Session • What is dementia? • Who is affected by dementia? • Different types of dementia. • Stages of dementia. • How to improve communication. • Dementia’s different behaviours. • Enabling environment.

  9. Environmental Audit • Clear and Concise Signage • Ease of access • Clear and clutter free (minimal shadowing) • Colour Schemes(Primary, contrasting) • Focal points (Interesting)

  10. Action Plan • Devised from environmental audit, • May entail changes to environment to become DF • Support from CAO to achieve these standards • Once plan is implemented, Mystery shopper will assess.

  12. The Aims Of The Project • Raise awareness of dementia Locally • Reduce stigma. • Ensure people living with dementia and their carers can live fully and safely. • Make sure that nobody goes through dementia on their own.
