  3. Reacting against the deliberately smooth and sweet tones of much 16th-century verse, the metaphysical poets adopted a style that is energetic, uneven, and rigorous. (Johnson decried its roughness and violation of decorum, the deliberate mixture of different styles.)   4. Choose an author to research Create a presentation for the class about that writer and analyze one of their writings with us as a class. Check the text book for suggested poems and discussion questions (why re-invent the wheel?)You can do this any way you choose – handouts, class discussions, choral reading, PowerPoint (which can be shown on the television), a song connection, a movie connection….be creative! However, you must use the poetry analysis questions and your AP terms (word, style, form and technique) as the basis for your lesson. Your total presentation should between10 and 15 minutes.
